Communities - Vineyards at Old Mill- About Wadsworth

The Vineyards at Old Mill

Wadsworth, OH 44281
(330) 730-2025

Founded in 1814 on land owned by the Connecticut Western Reserve, Wadsworth holds the distinction of being the farthermost southern edge of the enormous land holding which Connecticut was permitted to keep while other states ceded their lands to the federal government.

Revolutionary War hero, General Elijah Wadsworth, owned a huge portion of the land. Because of this, the other landowners thought it would be appropriate to name the new settlement, Wadsworth. Elijah Wadsworth was the direct descendant of Joseph Wadsworth, who is credited for saving the charter of the Connecticut Colony by hiding the document in an oak tree in what history refers to as the Charter Oak.

This history is alive and well in Wadsworth today.

Parks and Recreation:

Neighborhoods vary from the old and quaint to the new and grand; but all of them are filled with friendly people, often out walking and socializing when the weather allows.

Throughout the year, the downtown, "Square" is often used for special events, such as the annual 'Blue Tip Match Festival Parade and Celebration', summer concerts, an herb and craft festival, sidewalks sales, and more.

Neighborhood elementary schools and the city's many parks also foster that sense of community. The City of Wadsworth provides more than 200 acres of park land for residents, creating an inviting atmosphere for recreation and relaxation. In addition, the Wadsworth Recreation Department manages indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym, fitness center and community meeting rooms at the award winning recreation center, providing programs for all ages.
